I have worked in full-time academic teaching since 2000, when I began as a lecturer at the University of Bristol. I was Professor of Music at Royal Holloway, University of London until September 2019, and now I am Professorial Research Associate at SOAS, University of London.

My teaching has ranged very widely in these years, following my research interest and creative pursuits. The broad themes have been been the politics of music, practical music-making, and the relationships between them. In my most recent courses I combined theoretical concerns with leading performance and composition projects.

The list of courses is not exhaustive, but but it shows the main areas, starting from the most recent and receding into the past.

Intercultural Music: Theory and Practice
Creative Ensemble Performance
Music and Orientalism
Performance Studies (Masters)
Historical Musicology (Masters)
Nationalism and the music of Hungary
Music and Communism in the former Soviet Bloc
