Since 2024 I have been working with visual arts and design students on field recordings and soundscapes. The first formal project was with the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arte (NABA) in Milan, in November. Our activities ranged from listening exercises following scores by Pauline Oliveros, soundwalking, field recording, and then developing group projects. These included sound installations for the campus of NABA, audio-visual sound maps, and the 3D digital design of an entertainment space, with food and music.

In April 2025 I worked with architectural students from the Ecole Nationale d’Architecture, Rabat, in collaboration with Dr. Ouafa Messous, representating the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts – Leiden University. The 2-day workshop I led, hosted by NIMAR Rabat, was about engaging with an urban space through sound. Our case study was the UNESCO-listed “Udayas” of Rabat, the historical Kasbah (citadel).

While the point of the workshop was processual and educational – sound walking, listening, recording, co-composing and discussing – a concrete result was a piece of sound art in the form of an audio walk through the Oudeyas. By listening, you follow a walk through the main gate, along the Main Street and into side streets, to the terrace overlooking the sea, the large terrace cafe, and finally the Andalusian garden in time for the evening call to prayer.
